Sepsis: The Peril of Infection
Sepsis is an overwhelming systemic response to bacterial infection in the bloodstream or other organs. The infection itself is often not as dangerous as the bodyıs overreaction in fighting it off. The immune system shifts into overdrive to rid the body of the invader, but this process eventually causes vital organ damage often resulting in death if life support and antibiotic therapy are not immediately begun.
