Rehumatoid Arthritis: Taking Control
Boca Raton, FL -- Many people consider arthritis to be a sign of old age. But there is a debilitating form of this condition that strikes much earlier. More than two million Americans suffer from rheumatoid arthritis - many of them people in their 20's and 30's. And it's estimated that nearly 100,000 children suffer from a juvenile form of the disease. For those victims, pain and stiffness can be life altering - turning a once active lifestyle into days filled with chronic pain, fatigue and an uncertain future.
While the exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis is not known, it is known to be an autoimmune illness. The body's natural immune system does not operate as it should and instead attacks healthy joint tissue causing inflammation. If left untreated, it can cause permanent joint damage. Fortunately doctors are treating this illness with more success than ever before.
Rheumatoid Arthritis: Taking Control, co-hosted by Lee Simon, M.D. of Harvard Medical School, explores the roles of diet and exercise along with new medications that may be able to transform the lives of people with this disease. This informative, 30-minute TV special premieres on The Health Network on Monday, May 7 at 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. ET, and on Sunday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. ET, and will repeat several additional times this year.
