Asthma: One Breath at a Time

Boca Raton, FL -- Asthma is a serious, allergy-related breathing difficulty characterized by gasping, coughing, wheezing and sometimes a frightening inability to take a breath.  Children suffer greatly with asthma, but many people are unaware that this disease affects adults as well.  The number of asthma sufferers in the U.S. has increased to unprecedented numbers and has many physicians and researchers working hard to get at the cause.  While we wrestle with air pollutants, some experts are faulting Americanšs fetish with cleanliness.

Breakthroughs with treatments have made the fight for breath an easier one with understanding of particularly damaging allergens and hereditary backgrounds.  Research has found a new type of corticosteroid inhaler that can reach even the smallest airway blockages.

ASTHMA: One Breath At A Time is co-hosted by Sally Wenzel, M.D., Pulmonary Division, Department of Medicine, National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver and Rob Lemanske, M.D., Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at the University of Wisconsin Hospital.

This informative, 30-minute TV special premieres on The Health Network on Monday, May 14 at 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. ET, and on Saturday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. ET, and will repeat several additional times this year.
