Understanding Overactive Bladder: Taking Control

Overactive bladder is characterized by incontinence, urgency and frequency. It's a problem that ties up peoples' lives by the availability of the nearest restroom.

Roughly 18 million people suffer with these common ailments. The myth is that this is a problem of the elderly, but the surprising truth is that people as young as10 can be affected. The embarrassing nature of the ailment prevents many sufferers from even discussing the issue with their doctors. Because people think there is nothing that can be done about it, many suffer needlessly. Some become housebound because they fear what might happen in public if they cannot find a convenient restroom in time.

Understanding Overactive Bladder: Taking Control explains how the bladder works, tells you the symptoms to look for and follows patients as they overcome this condition. Today, there are new medicines, exercises and behavior therapies that can dramatically improve the lives of 95% of sufferers.

Understanding Overactive Bladder: Taking Control will provide relief if you or someone close to you is plagued by overactive bladder. This program is co-hosted by Richard Labasky, M.D. Salt Lake City, Utah; Timothy Boone, M.D., Baylor College of Medicine, Scott Department of Urology; and Rodney Appell, M.D., Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Department of Urology.

This 30-minute documentary program is produced by Information Television Network for The Health Network as part of its award-winning series, The Cutting Edge Medical Report, and is made possible by an unrestricted educational grant from ALZA CORPORATION.
