Diabetes: A National Epedemic
Diabetes is a very common, very costly and very serious disease that is reaching epidemic proportions. More than 2,000 people are diagnosed with Diabetes every day. There are 16 million Americans with Diabetes and fully one third of people with Diabetes donšt even know they have it.
Left untreated, the damage can be serious and life-threatening. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness and end-stage kidney disease and the most frequent cause of non-traumatic amputations of the lower leg and foot. Today, children as young as 11, are suffering from adult-onset Type 2 Diabetes in greater numbers than ever before.
What is the cause of this surge in Diabetes? What are the symptoms?
DIABETES: A National Epidemic is Part I of a two-part documentary program produced in concert with The National Diabetes Education Program, The National Institutes of Health and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as part of ITVšs award-winning series, The Cutting Edge Medical Report. The show will air over The Fox Health Network, and is made possible by an unrestricted educational grant to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists from Bristol-Myers Squibb.
