Mitral Valve Prolapse: Treatment Advances in MVP

Boca Raton, FL -- Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a disorder of the heart characterized by a slight deformity of the mitral valve.  MVP is frequently diagnosed in healthy people and is, for the most part, harmless. It is thought that as many as five to twenty percent of the general population may have this disorder.  Symptoms vary from mild to severe - with almost 60% of patients having no symptoms and needing no treatment.  Others may experience symptoms such as an irregular heartbeat, chest pain, fatigue or weakness and shortness of breath upon exertion.

For patients with mild symptoms, lifestyle changes and/or medications may be all that are necessary to manage their disorder. More serious problems are rare but can easily be diagnosed and, if necessary, treated surgically. Thanks to advancements in medical technology the surgical repair of the mitral valve and the replacement of the valve are now safe and life-prolonging options for many.

Mitral Valve Prolapse: Treatment Advances in MVP is a must see program for anyone concerned about this disorder. This informative, 30-minute TV special premieres on The Health Network on Friday, May 11 at 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. ET, and on Friday, May 25 at 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. ET, and will repeat several additional times this year.
