Advanced Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the U.S., with about 180,000 new cases diagnosed every year. It's also the second leading cause of cancer death in men.

What are the symptoms and stages of prostate cancer? Who is most likely to get it? Does heredity play a role? What about diet? What new diagnostic methods are available? What are the relative effectiveness of treatment options such as surgery, hormone therapy, radiation and chemotherapy? What new clinical trials are showing encouraging results?

These questions and more are explored in a TV special on Advanced Prostate Cancer. Men living with the condition will also talk about their feelings, the side effects they've experienced, and how they influenced their treatment decisions.

Finally, the importance of regular exams and early diagnosis is emphasized. Advanced prostate cancer can be prevented with early diagnosis, and regular check ups almost guarantee a curable disease.

Advanced Prostate Cancer is a 30-minute TV special created for FOX's The Health Network as part of the award winning The Cutting Edge Medical Report series. The show is co-hosted by David Crawford, M.D. of the University of Colorado, and Dan Petrylak, M.D. of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.

This program is produced by Information Television Network and was made possible by an educational grant from Rhone-Poulenc Rorer. For information on air dates and times, or to order a VHS copy of the program, call 1-888-380-6500.
