For many of us there are few things more frightening than a diagnosis of cancer. But thanks to recent breakthroughs and new treatments millions more people today have become cancer survivors. Unfortunately, thereÕs often a dark lining to the sunny statistics: cancer pain.Ê Cancer pain is thought to affect more than 10 million people around the world and is an ongoing problem even if the cancer has been successfully treated. In fact, sometimes itÕs the treatments themselves that cause pain, other times itÕs the cancer but because of the nature of the disease many people donÕt actively seek treatment for cancer pain even if it interferes with their daily existence. But there is an array of options to treat pain and to give cancer survivors hope for a future free from this agony. In this program we meet survivors who have had debilitating pain and hear what theyÕve done to combat it, plus we speak with experts in cancer pain and hear about pain therapies that are available today, and some that will be available in the future. These therapies can make a huge difference in the lives of cancer survivors around the world.
